Traveling in an RV with your dog sounds simple. And it is… once you figure a few things out.
Here are five things I wish I knew before we started traveling with Abi.

1. Not every campground is dog-friendly
Some places have:
breed restrictions
weight limits
extra fees
Always check ahead. It saves a headache later.
2. Heat is your biggest risk
Inside an RV, temps can rise fast.
You need:
reliable AC
airflow
a way to monitor temperature when you’re away
This is non-negotiable.
3. Your dog needs exercise (even on travel days)
It’s easy to skip walks when you’re driving all day.
Bad idea.
Even short walks help burn energy and keep them calm inside the RV.
4. Space gets tight fast
Your dog is now living in a small space with you.
That means:
less clutter
organized storage
designated dog area
The more organized you are, the smoother it goes.
5. They adjust faster than you think
This one surprised me.
Abi adapted quickly. New places, new smells, different setups… she handled it.
As long as she had:
her bed
her routine
us nearby
she was good.
Final thoughts
RV life with a dog isn’t hard. It’s just different.
Once you learn what works, it becomes part of the routine.
And honestly, it makes the whole experience better.
